Communicationes Rome (30-10-2009).- Among the themes for discussion at this recent Conference of the European Provincials in Zidane were next year¡¦s meeting of European students, a meeting of the OCD Formators (Europe) and proposals and initiatives for the World Day of Youth (2011).
Fr. Pascual Gil, Provincial of Aragon-Valencia, presided at the meeting for the first time in his role as President of the European Conference of Provincials. The four Definitors with responsibility for Europe, Frs. Emilio J. MartiVnez, Albert Wach, Robert Paul and John Grennan were also present. The Bishop of Mostar, Mons. Ratko Peric, assisted at the Eucharistic celebration on the opening day.
Fr. Emilio introduced proceedings with his paper: ¡§Born for you ¡V Teresa¡¦s charisma for Europe today¡¨. He spoke of the difficult situation in Europe at the moment and called on Carmel to offer a ¡§determined response¡¨ in a genuine Teresian spirit. He made three concrete proposals which were then discussed by the Provincials:- a) continuation of the programme for ¡§formation of Formators¡¨; b) encouragement of Major Superiors to consider their role of service in a ¡§fatherly¡¨ way; and c) to hold charismatic and language courses in Avila for our students during their period of formation.
On day two, Fr. Angelo Lanfranchi, Secretary of the European Conference of Provincials, spoke of the origin and function of the Conference itself. Fr. Albert Wach then presented the new programme for Pastoral Visitations as approved by the General Definitory for the coming sexennium.
In their concluding sessions, the Provincials agreed on dates and venues for the more important of the proposed meetings:- a) The gathering of European students will take place in Malta from 6 to 13 September 2010. The main theme of reflection at the event will be St. Paul; b) Masters of Students and Novices will meet in Fatima from 8 to 13 February 2010 while c) the next Conference of European Provincials will be held in the Lebanon, 25-28 October 2010.
