FIRST CONVENTION OF INDIAN CARMELITE DOCTORS
A research forum to promote the study of Carmelite spirituality

Hyderabad-India (05-06-2012).- Hyderabad, the capital of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, was the meeting place of the first convention of Discalced Carmelites with doctoral degrees.

The convention gathered 20 of the more than 70 religious who have been awarded that academic title and also counted on the presence of Father Augustine Mulloor, Definitor General of India.

The main objective of the meeting was to create the “Research Forum of Carmelite India” with the intention of promoting intercultural and interdisciplinary contributions to the study of Carmelite spirituality.

The Research Forum of Carmelite India will work to spur research, the love of the study of Carmelite spiritual patrimony, and to publish scientific works about Carmelite spirituality.

Along these lines, during its constitutional meeting the Forum has committed to the publication of “Way of Perfection” by Saint Teresa of Jesus from an Indian perspective.

The governing body of the Forum is formed by Father Gregory D'Souza, President; Father Zacharias Kariyalakulam, Vice President; Father Prasad Joseph, Secretary and Treasurer; and Father Augustine Mulloor, General Editor.
